Dressing For Comfort Over Style

Dressing For Comfort Over Style

I’ve always been one to put my style first before anything. I will walk around all night in the most uncomfortable pair of shoes just because they go nicely with my outfit, or wear a scratchy knitted jumper that looks really cool on but is not very comfortable at all. As sad as it sounds, I just love fashion and I sometimes find it difficult to sacrifice certain items in my wardrobe for comfort! But as I’m starting sixth form at a new school that allows us to wear what we want, I’ve had to do a bit of wardrobe shopping. I’ve decided to go for comfort not style. The pair of ripped jeans that are slightly too small now and too awkward to sit down in are not going to be worn. And the shoes that give me blisters are also NOT going to be worn, in fact they’ll probably go to the back of my wardrobe and never be worn again. Instead I’ve invested in some pieces that I know will be comfortable to wear everyday, but I’ve also tried to keep my style in there. I do believe there is such thing as being stylish and comfortable, therefore some pieces are are more trendy than others. So I guess this blog post is a mix of a back to school haul and a how to be comfortable and slightly stylish at the same time? I dunno, but enjoy…. 🙂

Choosing to go for looser clothes rather than fitted is a great way of feeling more comfortable during the day. It’s an obvious but un-preffered option nowadays as there are all sorts of skin tight crop tops in shops at the moment. But my type of comfort is chucking on a loose/oversized top. This Zara dupe is from Romwe and is perrrrrfect. It ticks all the boxes as is pretty cheap and…comfortable! I think it looks great with a pair of Jamie Jeans from Topshop. Which brings me onto my next point – Denim.

I recently purchased a very comfortable pair of Topshop Jamie Jeans, they are so soft and flexible, I could wear them all day! So the key to still looking slightly more put together than wearing a pair of trackie bottoms to school, is to invest in a good pair of snug jeans. I also adore this new striped tee from Topshop, it’s super easy to wear with many different outfits and is nice n comfy.

Then of course, we have culottes which encompasses style and comfort into one. Bingo we have a winner! They really are a great alternative to wearing jeans one day of the week. If you didn’t know already from my ‘My Love For Culottes‘ blog post, I’m a huge fan of culottes! I also bought a few new hoodies/jumpers, I like to call this one my ‘marshmallow top’ as it’s the cutest shade of pink evaaa. It’s from Primark and I also bought a khaki one because I thought they were so handy for sixth form, for £5 each I have no regrets!

Sometimes, I think it’s just better to dress down and put your own comfort and feelings first. It’s easy to get all worked up about a pair of jeans that are so horrendously uncomfortable, but you’ve got to think to yourself – am I only wearing these to look good and are they actually comfortable? But because I love fashion so much and I enjoy finding new trends, I am trying to find more pieces that has both comfort and style. I hope you enjoyed todays post, thank you for reading and good luck if you’re starting a new job or year in school this year!

LOVED this post as always Tilly! I’m definitely more of a comfort girl so this post was so helpful to see ways in which you can still be comfortable but stylish at the same time. I totally get what you mean with wanting to wear something but it’s just not comfortable. Especially with knitted tops, why do they always have to scratch! I must get a pair of those jeans & that ‘marshmallow’ jumper is so me! I’m loving that shade of pink atm. Also you look gorgeous in every outfit btw-so jealous!! 💗💗

LOVED this post, Tilly! I’m SO over being uncomfortable for fashion, I have bought far too many tight skirts that DEFFO cannot be worn when I’m having a huge Nandos haha! Comfort always wins! You look gorgeous in every outfit as always, loved reading this! xx
