That tis the question. (Don’t you just love my Shakespearean reference there?)
So it can be very tricky when trying to decide whether or not to keep certain items of clothing/shoes I know, there’s you saying to yourself, I don’t know if it will even be in fashion next year, too big/too small, totally gone off it, ew just no- sound familiar? Well if so, it sounds like you need a lil bit of help from moi (let me just put it out there I am guilty of collecting high amounts of needless clothing too but I’m pretty good when it comes to ‘clear out time’!
Anyway let us begin…
First rule is to go through your wardrobe NOW and pick out anything you haven’t worn in months- even if it’s completely the wrong time of year for it. If you pick out a jumper from your wardrobe in Summer lets say and find out you now hate the sight of it, you don’t have to deal with it when it comes to winter, leaving you time to buy some new ones! Therefore step one is to go through every piece and if you have not worn it in a while then it goes into a neglectful pile on your bed- capiche?
Sort through the pile you have accumulated and ask your self ‘Do I like this now?’ and ‘Am I going to like this next year?’ because those are two important questions as not only fashion changes but so does your style! Therefore if you are really indecisive keep it until that particular time to wear it then ask you self again. But personally I’d advise you to just chuck it, as feeling two minds about something is usually a sign you don’t LOVE it.
Trying things on is a great way to see if things don’t fit, you don’t like the way it looks or just not feeling it anymore. You can get a clearer opinion on whether you still like it or not, rather than just holding it up and waving it around (basically me).
Having some basic things in your wardrobe is necessary. Things like long and short sleeved tops, jeans, polo necks. I have recently just gone back to an old long sleeve top from Primark that I literally must have worn everyday last winter. Which proves, if you get some good staples into your wardrobe then you can keep them year after year. Also keep things you know will be in fashion next year, be realistic.
Anything that was in fashion now most probably won’t be trendy in a few months time, so you need to ask yourself ‘Did I just buy it because everyone else has it?’ which is totally okay but most importantly ‘Do I actually like it?’ is the question you really need to ask. There’s no good keeping something in your wardrobe if it’s totally out of fashion and not even yourself likes it anymore- SIGN TO CHUCK!
When I’m saying ‘chuck it’ I really mean give it to charity or if you want to get some money for it then why not sell it on Depop. Depop is a great way of depositing your clothes out to nice homes that actually want your stuff and getting money at the same time- what a bonus! Follow my Depop @tillyblowers 🙂
Sometimes you gotta just ball’s up, be a man and say goodbye to items that you know deep down you don’t like! Just go for it, be brave, maybe even start your whole wardrobe again from a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, buy some clothes you actually like! Whatever you do make sure you like the clothes!!! Thanks for reading, hope this helped some of you 🙂
